Steel Magnolias
Beauty shops have long been a place for women to relax, gab and get their beloved makeovers. They also make for great all-female bonding escapades and Steel Magnolias is premised on just that. The Southern vibe of this particular beauty shop is charming to watch in the film, so too are the accents, and the variations of women from all different age demographics provides insight. Plus, how can you not watch a film with your mom that has Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Julia Roberts, Sally Field and Daryl Hannah all in it? You can’t. Prepare to go through a sea of emotions though, regardless of how many times you’ve seen it. There’s a reason why the movie’s been dubbed as “The funniest movie to make you cry.”
