It was a surprise for many to see Selena Gomez at the ceremony as she has recently been off social media and out of the spotlight, focusing her attention on her mental and physical well-being. Showing up in a pristine red Prada gown, with a low ponytail and minimal accessories, Gomez radiated and reached out saying: “If you are broken, you don’t have to stay broken.” Gomez won the award for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist and took the time to address her recent absence from the limelight, how she wants to see people’s hearts not their bodies on Instagram, and that validation from others isn’t important to her anymore. While speaking about her struggle, she seemed near tears and this vulnerability was moving to say the least, even Lady Gaga was gripped and saluted the 24-year-old singer/actress, clearly showing her support. There’s no word if and when Gomez will return to making music, but it kind of seemed like she was saying her peace, nonetheless.
