Eat: Without restraint
I’m going to be honest with you: You’re probably not going to eat a lot of salad when you’re in Dublin, but I can assure you that you will not go hungry. Start your day with a traditional Irish breakfast at a pub like Bruxelles, which includes a fried egg, Irish bacon, sausage, beans, black pudding and toast with “real butter” — I’ll get to that in a sec. If you’re looking for a more modern brunch spot, Balfes is a must for its range of breakfast stuff from poached eggs to avocado toast. For lunch, stop in somewhere for beef and Guinness stew (maybe while you’re at the Guinness Storehouse — just make sure you get some of the Guinness sourdough on the side and maybe a plate of oysters while you’re at it) and head over to Fade Street Social for a dinner filled with meat and potatoes — but not just any meat and potatoes. The best combination of premium cut filets and four types of potatoes you’ll ever eat (I told you that you wouldn’t go hungry). Irish take their butter very seriously, so much so that they even refer to real butter as, well, “real butter.” Make sure you hit up Queen of Tarts before you go. Cakes and coffee have never tasted so good. Enjoy it all while you’re there and then maybe just plan a juice cleanse when you get home.
