[tps_header] 2016 has come to a close<\/a> (hallelujah), and as we begin the new year there are plenty of entertaining things to look forward to in 2017. Case in point: the crowning of our favourite stars, TV shows and films. While we may be biased in our own selections, there are the committees and critics that have weighed in their top picks and predictions for the 2017 award season, and with that we shall reflect on the good and the snubs, with some past awards’ memories that may seemingly repeat this coming season. From returning vets\u00a0to a new slew of binge-worthy programming, the 2017 awards season has a stack of names and features that we’re stoked to see the outcome of.<\/p>\n

But before we get to this year’s predictions, let’s rewind and recall some of the most memorable moments from 2016.\u00a0[\/tps_header]<\/p>\n

One of the biggest shows of 2016, undoubtedly, was Stranger Things<\/em>, the show that reminded us how much we miss Winona Ryder and a Goonies<\/em>-esque group of curious, mystery-hungry kids. Throw that in with a creepy monster and some fast-paced thrill scenes, and it’s no wonder Stranger Things<\/em> was binge-worthy this year. But, we simply can’t\u00a0forget the excitement felt when the kid stars of the show proved their dancing (and singing) chops\u00a0at the 2016 Emmys<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Another return to the scene in 2016 was funnyman Chris Rock. Rock opened the Emmys\u00a0with a monologue that called the industry “sorority racist” and while it wasn’t “fetch me some lemonade” racist, it was still indeed racist. He also made sure to tackle the whole boycotting of the Emmys by black artists including\u00a0Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett, which left a bit of an unsettling vibe, but that’s Chris Rock for you. Even so, hearing Chris Rock’s voice again, on such a coveted stage was a nice treat for 2016.<\/p>\n

Then awkward was taken to a whole new level when former Clueless\u00a0<\/em>star, Stacey Dash, tried to deliver some sentiment<\/a>\u00a0(a joke?!), or something with words that totally flopped with the audience. Her comments were made after a month prior she said that there shouldn’t be a Black History Month, and on this particular evening she said she “can’t wait to help out [my]\u00a0people out” then wishing a\u00a0happy Black History Month to the mute\u00a0audience. It was that moment when you feel like crawling under the table just to pretend it didn’t happen.<\/p>\n
