Although I’m a firm believer of reading anywhere in any type of weather, there’s something particularly comforting about curling up in your home on a really cold day to read a great novel. A cup of tea or a glass of wine, some really comfy clothing and the coziest blanket paired with a great book really can’t be beat. So, just in case you need a little help picking out the book (sorry, I can’t help you with the wine), here are the novels we are most excited to read over the next couple of months.<\/p>\n

Perfect Little World <\/em>by Kevin Wilson<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

When a desperate young mother seeks help for her child, she enters into a family experiment\u201dshe joins nine other couples in a community where the children are raised together by all the parents and the children have no\u00a0knowledge of their biological beginnings. So goes the synopsis of Perfect Little World <\/em><\/a>by Kevin Wilson ($34). Hoping to discover that the more parents a child has they more they are loved (and by extension happy) the psychologist in charge of the Infinite Family Project, Dr. Grinds, soon finds that all families (even Utopian ones) disintegrate. We’ll read this one out of curiosity\u201dhow does the experiment turn out?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Lonely Hearts Hotel <\/em>by Heather O’Neill<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Two abandoned orphans find themselves travelling the world because of their impressive gifts; Pierrot is an exquisite piano player and Rose has an aptitude for dancing. The Lonely Hearts Hotel<\/em><\/a> by Heather O’Neill ($33) tells the story of the two falling in love, their teenage years, their separation. It’s a story about perseverance and the power of creativity. Set in Montreal and New York between the World Wars, these orphans will light up the world with their talents.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Perfect Remains <\/em>by Helen Fields<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

If Gone Girl <\/em>and Girl on the<\/em> Train are your jam, you’re going to want to read Perfect Remains<\/em><\/a> by Helen Fields ($17). Elaine Buxton’s body is identified by her teeth\u201dbut it’s not her. She’s actually concealed in the back room of a house, screaming for her life. Detective Inspector Beau Callanach is investigating the murder\u201dbut when another women goes missing, the situation is escalated. This twisty criminal caper will keep you on the edge of your bed. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait just a little bit to read this thriller\u201dit comes out March 14.<\/p>\n

Be My Wolff<\/em> by Emma Richler<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The press release for Be My Wolff<\/em><\/a> by Emma Richler ($34) is confusing\u201dbut compelling. Zachariah and Rachel are brother and sister (through adoption), but also star-crossed lovers (which makes it so perfect that this book lands February 14). As a way to cope with their family’s displeasure, Rachel sets out to create an ancestry for Zachariah by inventing a family history. The novel moves between their past as children growing up as a Russian family living in London, to their current lives, living together estranged from their father, to the imagined ancestry that Rachel brings to life. We’re promised art, history, folklore, fairy tails, battles and an unforgettable love story.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Impossible Fortress<\/em> by Jason Rekulak<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Impossible Fortress<\/em><\/a> by Jason Rekulak ($34) capitalizes on the nostalgia that pretty much all of our pop culture has been tapping into lately. In the late 1980s, Billy Marvin is obsessed with computers. And then he meets Mary Zelinsky and she knows even more about the subject than he does. This could have been a cute novel about first love (which it is), but it also has the added element of crime. You see, Billy and his friends need to get their hands on the Playboy <\/em>issue that includes images of Vanna White\u201dand Mary’s father is the only guy in town who sells Playboy<\/em> at his store. Cue the deceit, the caper and, of course, a good dose of hilarity.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Fire by Night <\/em>by\u00a0Teresa Messineo<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Teresa Messineo first got the idea for writing The<\/em>\u00a0Fire by Night<\/em><\/a> ($22) after nurses began telling their war-time stories in 2005 (prior to that they signed oaths of secrecy which prohibited them from disclosing details of their service). The author spent seven years researching and listening to these stories, and the result is a novel that focuses on two American army nurses on the front lines in Europe during World War II. Any novel that gives attention and agency to silenced groups is a win in our book\u201dand this one places the women of the war effort center stage.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane <\/em>by Lisa See<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Li-yan and her family are part of a small minority group in China that follows a very precise spiritual code in a remote part of the country. Their business is tea, and pretty soon a stranger comes to the village with dreams of rare, healing tea and, of course, money. Li-yan has a baby out of wedlock (a big no-no in her village) and must smuggle the baby to the nearest town where she leaves the child on the steps of an orphanage. The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane <\/em><\/a>by Lisa See ($36) takes shape as Li-yan leaves her village and encounters the wider world\u201dall the while wondering about the daughter she gave up, the family she left behind and the tea that is her birthright.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Swimming Lessons <\/em>by Claire Fuller<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In the second novel by English author Claire Fuller, Swimming Lessons<\/em><\/a> ($20) tells the story of Ingrid, who leaves a series of letters hidden for her husband, Gil, inside his books before disappearing. Twelve years later, their daughter, Flora, returns home to help an injured Gil, only to get drawn into the secrets of her parents’ marriage and what really happened to her mother all those years ago.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
