Because sometimes ringing in the New Year from the comfort of your own couch is fun too…<\/strong><\/p>\n

New Years Eve usually means buying a sequin dress you\u2019ll wear exactly once, strapping on a pair of heels that work more like ice skates, and paying a inflated cover to a club you probably wouldn\u2019t go to normally. Though going out is a super popular way to welcome the new year among young people, there is a new way millennials are choosing to spend New Years Eve; from their couches. Listen, I am not here to tell you how to live your life, but as someone who has enjoyed many a new year from the comfort of their own home, I\u2019m definitely telling you how to spend New Years Eve. Just because you\u2019re spending it at home, doesn\u2019t make you boring. But just in case you don\u2019t feel like braving the club scene this year, here are a few reasons that will maybe persuade you into staying home, and joining the revolution.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t have to leave the comfort of the great indoors.<\/strong>
\nYes, I understand spending New Years Eve in the confines of a sweaty nightclub is an adult right-of-passage, but there is something to be said about drinking champagne in your pajamas. Since New Years Eve is in the winter, you can bet on it being pretty cold outside, perhaps even snowy, or icy. Ditch the possibility of being Bambi on ice (more on this later), put on some slippers, and enjoy the train wreck that is usually the New Years Rockin\u2019 Eve<\/em> special from the comfort of your own couch, and cozy blanket.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t have to spend as much money.<\/strong>
\nWith the holiday season coming to a close, wallets are usually feeling the strain. With a NYE in, you can kiss goodbye to inflated cover fees to clubs, and strict dress code events. We all know you have at least two sequin options that you will wear exactly once. By staying in you don\u2019t have to worry about the cost of a new outfit, paying for every single drink, or worrying about fare surges using ride share apps to get home. Start 2019 with a happy wallet. Saving a little bit here and there is something you will never regret doing.<\/p>\n

You have space and time to reflect. <\/strong>
\nOne of my favourite things to do at the end of each year is reflect on what I learned over the past 12 months, and how to grow going forward. A low-key evening means you can pretty much spend the whole night doing this. Invite some friends to join you and you can share your reflections on the past year, and intentions for the New Year with them. \u00a0This is simply something that cannot be done while a questionable remix of Auld Lang Syne<\/em> that absolutely nobody asked for is thumping through the speakers.<\/p>\n

No kiss? No problem!<\/strong>
\nNo need to feel the awkward strain of not having anybody to kiss when the clock strikes midnight, when you\u2019re hanging out at home. You don\u2019t have to kiss anyone, or anything if you don\u2019t want to. But just in case you do want to kiss something at midnight, here is a list of acceptable options for you to choose from.<\/p>\n

-your dog
\n-your cat
\n-your credit card
\n-your favourite pair of sneakers
\n-your blender that you use to make smoothies every morning
\n-your copy of Becoming<\/em> by former first lady, Michelle Obama.<\/p>\n

Kiss whatever you love, kiss whatever makes you happy, or kiss whatever got you through the year. We made it, congratulations to all of us for that. If you don\u2019t want to kiss anything, that\u2019s ok too, and if you have a significant other, I guess you could also kiss them, but where\u2019s the fun in that?<\/p>\n

No ice-skating in heels<\/strong>
\nIf you have ever been out on New Years Eve in a country that has winter, you know that high heels, and normal winter weather do not mix. Not only do you have to think about how to combat the weather while you\u2019re waiting in line to get into the club (do you wear a jacket or not?), but you\u2019re usually doing this wearing a pair of heels. While heels do complete the look 100 per cent of the time, the problem with wearing them at the end of December is that the ground is usually covered in ice. You would think that a high heel would work as some sort of an ice pick, but that is usually not the case. Mix in some NYE liquid fun, and you\u2019ve got yourself a very unsteady walk home. Ditch the heels, and choose some cozy slippers instead, no slipping, no blisters, no worries that you\u2019ll fall in front of a line of 100 people outside a busy nightclub.<\/p>\n

You can leave the party whenever you want<\/strong>
\nIf you\u2019re anything like me, you are an expert of the fine art of leaving the party early. There is nothing wrong with staying until the lights come on, but why not leave whenever you know you\u2019re absolutely over it, and want nothing more than to crawl into bed and doze off into the abyss? It\u2019s not boring, it\u2019s sensible, and you free up all of January 1st<\/sup> to spend however you want.<\/p>\n

So as you can see, spending New Years at home isn\u2019t sad, or lonely. But just in case you feel like it might get lonely, invite some friends over and make it a cozy night in. Sometimes those are the best kinds of parties. Of course if after reading this you\u2019re still excited to still leave the comfort of your own homes to ring in the New Year in a crowded, sweaty nightclub, I can\u2019t stop you, and you should be doing whatever makes you happy.
