Boxing Day is a great way to score deals on those items you’ve been eyeing before Christmas<\/a>. However, if you’re unprepared, Boxing Day shopping can be extremely stressful, and disappointing.<\/p>\n

Here are a few strategies to make sure you get exactly what you want, without overspending<\/a>!<\/p>\n

1. Pre-shop<\/strong><\/span>
A few weeks prior to Boxing Day, check out the items you’re interested in, and make note of the prices. If you’re looking to buy clothes or shoes, make sure you try them on beforehand, so you can quickly search for your size. This will save you time and spare you from disappointment come Boxing Day.<\/p>\n

2. Prioritize<\/strong><\/span>
Don’t go in without a game plan – you’ll be frazzled and probably leave empty-handed. Make a list of specific items you are looking for, rather than going in the stores and browsing. Chances are it will be way too crowded and messy for you to actually find anything worthwhile. <\/p>\n

3. Create a budget<\/strong><\/span>
Give yourself a certain amount to spend, and stick to it! A great way to make sure you don’t overspend is to bring cash and leave your credit cards at home. And if you’re scared you may need your Visa for “emergency purposes,” put some cash in a separate envelope to act as your “emergency fund.”<\/p>\n

4. Check online<\/strong><\/span>
Once you’ve made note of the items you want, check online to see if there’s a difference in price than what you saw in the store. Some companies offer deals that are available only online. It is also wise to check other sites to see if they are selling the item you want for a better price. Large shopping centres will also post a list of deals each store will be offering, so make sure you take a look and decide whether or not it’s worth it to line up and fight the crowds. Or, if you have pre-shopped and know exactly what you want, avoid lineups altogether, and do all of your Boxing Day shopping online and from the comfort of your own home.<\/p>\n

5.  Stay focused<\/strong><\/span>
Remember to buy things you actually NEED, not want. Sales can often make an item you wouldn’t usually buy more appealing. Ask yourself, if it weren’t on sale, would you still purchase it? If the answer is no, put it down.  <\/p>\n

6. Check for last-minute deals<\/strong><\/span>
You know when salesclerks ask for your e-mail? Take them up on that offer. Usually stores send out exclusive promotions, coupons, and pre-sales via e-mail. If you’re worried your inbox will get flooded, create a separate account just for this purpose. And be sure to check Twitter and Facebook for up-to-the-minute updates on great deals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
