According to Tim Gunn, plus-sized fashion is "devestating," going so far as to call out skinny elitism — and also Andrej Pejic, androgynous superstar.<\/p>\n

"Frankly, there are two markets," he said to the Huffington Post<\/em>. "The women who are larger than the 12, and then there are women who are petite. And most designers that I talk to have absolutely no interest in addressing either of those populations, which I find repugnant."<\/p>\n

"Go to Lord & Taylor on Fifth Avenue," he continued. "I think it's the eighth floor, and it's just a department called, 'Woman.' It's rather devastating. You've never seen such hideous clothes in your entire life. I mean, it's simply appalling. Thank God there are no windows on that floor because if I were an 18, I'd throw myself right out the window [after seeing those clothes]. It's insulting what these designers do to these women."<\/p>\n

He then went on to acknowledge how runway models are notoriously, often shockingly, thin, and how that in itself is damaging the industry.<\/p>\n

"I mean, there are so many models walking the runway who haven't even gone through puberty," he said. "And this is not the real world."<\/p>\n

As for how Andrej Pejic fits in?<\/p>\n

"The designers love him because he doesn't have any hips, and women aren't going to look like that."<\/p>\n

Man alive. In terms of size and runway models, Gunn's arguably got a point: it's still hard to pick up "what's in" if you've got curves, though thanks to the re-establishment of vintage, it's at least easier to find pieces that work with hourglass-like figures. But if you want new pieces? Well, it's about time someone like Gunn spoke up.<\/p>\n

However, the Pejic comment is arguably a little more controversial — especially since his presence in fashion has seen him break down barriers in terms of gender norms.  What do you guys think?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
