Every red carpet diva has the help of a fabulous stylist. For Nyong'o, who perhaps has the most enviable red carpet look of this past awards season, that stylist is Macaela Erlanger. <\/p>\n

"It's been a whirlwind, that's for sure," Erlanger told ABC News. The 28-year-old is in charge of every detail of Nyong'o's red carpet looks, including her accessories (like the headband she wore at the Oscars). <\/p>\n

"I think the moment that really changed the game was her in the red Ralph Lauren gown. That, to me, really solidified her as an icon, as a star." <\/p>\n

The gown Erlanger refers to is the one Nyong'o wore to the Golden Globe Awards in January. The dress had simple lines and a fabulous cape detail that made the actress look like the most elegant superhero — a look very few can successfully pull off. <\/p>\n

Erlanger says there are three things everyone should do before walking down the red carpet. First, take pictures. "Take pictures of yourself in front, side and back to see how things read," she advises. <\/p>\n

Next, add in some colour. "I love bold hues. People shouldn't be afraid of colour." <\/p>\n
