Enter: her new global scholarship program through her Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF), which will award international students enrolling in U.S. colleges.<\/p>\n
“To be able to give the gift of education is actually an honour,” she said in a statement to USA Today, who reported the story on Monday. “Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it. I am thrilled to be able to do this.”<\/p>\n
So here’s how it works. As per Billboard, each applicant must be a citizen or native of Brazil, Barbados, Cuba, Haiti, Grenada, Guyana, or Jamaica, and has been accepted into an accredited four-year college or university for the entire 2016-2017 academic year.<\/p>\n
Then, after being selected, the recipient may be eligible for anywhere between $5000 and $50 000 in scholarship money. (Nice!) Renewal depends on the student’s academic performance, and can be renewed every three years or until the student has achieved a bachelor’s degree — whichever comes first.<\/p>\n
So there you have it. Rihanna is God. But I mean, actually: the gift of education is huge, and it’s another testament to how rooted in giving back Rihanna is. She launched CLF back in 2012, and since has raised $5 million via the Diamond Ball to help those in need through healthcare, education, the arts, and culture. Meaning that in short, she’s\u00a0the best.<\/p>\n
And, if you or anyone you know are interested, applications for the scholarship are open from now until June 10, when from there 50 finalists will be selected based on academic performance, demonstrated leadership, and participation in school and community activities, work experience, plus a personal essay. We’ll then find out who the winners are in August.<\/p>\n
