In case you haven’t noticed, Blue Crush<\/em> is finally on Netflix and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t let out a rather embarrassing squeal of joy when I received the “we just added a movie you might like email.” I’d also be lying if I said I didn’t screenshot and immediately tweet<\/a> said email. So, last weekend when I was supposed to be cleaning or getting ready for something or I don’t even remember what I was supposed to be doing, I put it on for “background noise” and then proceeded to sit and watch the entire thing and I realized that, 14 years later, this is still the best movie ever.<\/p>\n

The soundtrack<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

P.O.D, N.E.R.D, Lenny Kravitz, Blestenation. I love all of it. Coincidentally, the soundtrack<\/a> for Blue Crush<\/em> is also the soundtrack of my youth.<\/p>\n

The poor life choices that remind me of my youth<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hooking up with people on vacation. Coming in late for work. Eating twinkies for breakfast. Sitting in a wet bikini all day.\u00a0Ah, to be young and crazy and wild again.<\/p>\n

The fashion<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Full disclosure: In high school I wanted to be a part of this\u00a0Blue Crush\u00a0<\/em>life so so bad. I wore board shorts. My high school bf and I were going to move to Hawaii and own a surf shop. I desperately wanted to trade in my two brown eyes for Kate Bosworth’s brown-blue mix. Watch out, guys: the next fashion trend comeback is DEFINITELY board shorts and bikinis. Mark my words.<\/p>\n

The hot bods<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Sun’s out buns out.<\/p>\n

The drama<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Anne Marie took a tourist surfing at the local spot. She ditched her friends to hook up with said guy and get room service. She almost ruined her chance at Pipe. They just don’t make movies like this anymore.<\/p>\n

The aspirational message<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Jokes aside, a love a good wholesome message like you can do anything you set your mind to (though I’d also like to throw in here that a near-drowning experience is a legitimate reason to be afraid to try again so everyone CALM DOWN). What I love even more is a supportive manfriend dude who is there cheering you on. Anne Marie gets her shit together, surfs Pipe and her friends and Matt are there watching and supporting her kick some surfing ass.<\/p>\n

The surfing (duh)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

My dreams of becoming a professional surfer have since been shattered, but I still can’t get enough of shots like this.<\/p>\n

It just all seems so laid-back and cool. Not one person is the least bit concerned about yeast infections or anything like that. We could all take a lesson from this bold fashion choice: just chill, guys.<\/p>\n

The love story that is so<\/em> ’00s<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Like all the love stories shown in other teen movies past like\u00a0She’s All That\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0Bring It On.<\/em>\u00a0Guy meets girl. One of them is way out of the other’s league. They fall in love, even though, logistically they’ll likely never be able to make it work, but the movie ends on such a high note we’re not even worried about it. Aww.<\/p>\n
