Alright, well look.\u00a0I refuse to lie to any of you, so I’ll just come right out and say it: a third Sex and the City<\/em> movie isn’t happening, so let’s all just move on with our lives.<\/p>\n

And before anyone gets uppity about me making things up, let me make something perfectly clear: this comes from the mouth of Kim Cattrall herself.<\/p>\n

“Everyone is doing their own thing and if it was going to happen, it would have happened by now,” she told The Daily Record<\/a>. “It would be a challenge to do a third instalment. It could be fun, though. To say goodbye completely to Samantha would be pretty hard.”<\/p>\n

Which, like, duh. But also: hooray! This is good, you guys. Two movies is a lot. Some (hi!) might even say two movies is too much. And even Cynthia Nixon agrees with me, so there you go.<\/p>\n

“We don’t need another Sex and the City<\/em> because we learned the lesson of the show: marriage isn’t the be all and end all in women’s minds anymore, and women are friends with each other in a way that rivals their romantic relationships,” she told The Guardian back in 2015<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And this is also true! Even if what Cattrall said contradicts that a bit.<\/p>\n

“I think the climate changed,” the artist-formerly-known-as-Samantha added to her explanation. “To have four women talking about shopping trips and spending $400 on shoes when people are having trouble putting food on the table? It doesn’t mean we don’t need that, but I think the pendulum swung in a different direction.”<\/p>\n

Amen to that. Because here’s the thing: while Sex and the City<\/em> provided an important catalyst for women in terms of the mainstream understanding that marriage\/kids isn’t the only priority, it also reflected a financial reality that only exists for the 1%. I don’t think I know anyone who can just throw down a few hundred for a pair of shoes just because, and almost every other show that makes sense right now reflects the way women date and have relationships and have sex. So while Sex and the City was important for the turn of the century, it makes no sense in 2016 anymore. Especially since the characters only ever talk about one thing: dating. And in real life, with this political and social climate, those conversations just don’t have the traction they use to. (Read: nobody cares. There’s bigger shit going on.)<\/p>\n

So let’s pour one out for the idea of Sex and the City 3<\/em> (JK: let’s all be so grateful because the second movie was an absolute disaster). And let’s go on and live our lives and try not to die of the heat stroke each and every one of us is basically suffering from currently, instead.
