I don’t know how to say this, but Brie Larson is my best friend. She’s a better friend to me than Aubrey Drake Graham, she’s super-cool, thinks my clothes are the coolest, and we hang out all the time and talk about important things like Leonardo DiCaprio and how to get Leonardo DiCaprio to date me.<\/p>\n

Also I am lying, she and I have never met, but it seemed believable, didn’t it? Because I am great? I know.<\/p>\n

Anywho. The actor — and newly-appointed Captain Marvel — took to Instagram<\/a>\u00a0to share some thoughts, feelings, and straight up wisdom. Behold:<\/p>\n

“Woke up this morning thinking about the tidal wave of support I got this weekend,” she said, referring to Comic-Con. “It was nerve-racking to trust fall into the internet! I know who I am, but it’s wild how quickly you forget once someone calls you something terrible.”<\/p>\n

“I was reminded how the acceptance of community is a deeply rooted need — but I don’t want to live worried people will hate me because I’m myself! We should all have the freedom to be our authentic selves without fear or judgement.”<\/p>\n

But the wisdom continues:<\/p>\n

“It’s scary to chip away at all the hardness we coat ourselves with to protect that perfect little being inside. Yeah, people can be mean, but they can also be so many other wonderful things too. Let’s make this place a safe space. No hate and more understanding. To the followers that are new: welcome! Sometimes I let people take over my Instagram to share their views of the world. That’s coming up next. Thanks for joining us!”<\/p>\n

See? Brie Larson is my best friend. And also, after the garbage fire that has defined 2016, sometimes we need a random Instagram post to be like, “It’s fine, be cool, you’re going to get through this, just be yourself.” Also: “It’s fine, for like, five seconds you can take a deep breath and try and make sense of the nonsense world we’re currently living in.”<\/p>\n

Basically, Brie Larson seems like someone who could really sit down and make you feel a lot better about everything. So, on this, the day before a long weekend, I say: be the Brie Larson you want to see in the world.
