[tps_header]Charming\u00a0characters are\u00a0hard not to\u00a0fawn over. Our idling of such duos is not just important for our own continuous obsessing (or jealousy), but for directors hoping to score with audiences. There’s a reason why you’ll see familiar pairs making multiple appearances together on screen\u00a0and often it comes down to one word: chemistry. When you find something that works why change it, right? Whether these folks actually dig each other in real life is questionable, but there’s something about them we’re drawn to and we all need some make believe in our lives, one way or another.<\/p>\n

Hollywood has made a lot of moolah off pairings dating back decades, much of the time they were contracted to do so by the studio. Think Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy (who did nine films together and also dated off screen), Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor (who rocked eight films together) or Lucille Ball and Bob Hope (who were doubled up on four features)—these were members of the Golden Age of Hollywood.<\/p>\n

But this recipe hasn’t been forgotten in modern days, keeping with the tradition and adoration that often spawns\u00a0relationships off screen too (Woody Allen and Mia Farrow, for example). Sometimes this can lead to really bad working relationships, but that’s\u00a0a whole other article.<\/p>\n

Instead lets remind ourselves of some of the latest and greatest actors to share the screen, over and over again.[\/tps_header]<\/p>\n

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence<\/strong><\/p>\n

Key movies<\/strong>: Silver Linings Playbook, Serena, American Hustle, Joy<\/em><\/p>\n

Why they work<\/strong>: Quirky, heartfelt, playful\u00a0and deeply dramatic, these two actors share a common appreciation for depth and versatility in acting while\u00a0proving they aren’t afraid to tackle hard subject matter together. Sure there’s always been speculation they’ve\u00a0have shared romance off the screen, but there’s been multiple interviews where the honesty of their friendship outweighs such speculation. Or maybe they’re just that good at acting.\u00a0There’s also a 15-year age gap, but like that really<\/em> matters.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Key movies<\/strong>: Titanic, Revolutionary Road<\/em><\/p>\n

Why they work<\/strong>: It’s quite obvious that besides their infectious beauty, both Winslet and DiCaprio\u00a0have a similar maturity and presence that shows on and off the big screen. Not just anyone choked up<\/a>\u00a0(well maybe his mom) when Leo won the Oscar this year. They also brought us some of the most memorable scenes (“I want you to draw\u00a0me like one of your French girls”) that made us believe that poor boy and rich girl can fall in love on a sinking ship, and never let go.<\/p>\n

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n

Key movies<\/strong>: Crazy, Stupid, Love, La La Land, Gangsta Squad<\/em><\/p>\n

Why they work<\/strong>: While we rooted hard for Rachel and Ryan to make Canada proud as the lovebirds of the century, it didn’t happen. Enter Emma Stone. She may not have dated him in real life, but on screen she and Gosling shared a sweet, cheeky love zest that was honest and endearing. Plus, they’re\u00a0one of the handful of duos that can pull off romcom, drama and musical song and dance with the same ease and spunk.<\/p>\n

Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley<\/strong><\/p>\n

Key movies<\/strong>: The Spectacular Now, The Divergent Series, Allegiant<\/em><\/p>\n

Why they work<\/strong>: These two dorks are so badass it’s hard not to get addicted to watching them kick ass and fall in love. In The Spectacular Now<\/em> they portrayed a true coming-of-age companionship that resonated with audiences and critics alike. Then a year later they dived hard into the beginning of an action packed series that put them in Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson territory, kind of. They’re the duo we wish we got from Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth, but glad we didn’t because these two are enough. Plus, try to find a picture of them (off screen) when they’re not looking like they’re having a blast together. Who cares if they purposely sabotaged<\/a> their kissing scenes? That just makes them even more lovable.<\/p>\n

Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart<\/strong><\/p>\n

Key movies<\/strong>: Adventureland<\/em>, American Ultra, Caf\u00e9\u00a9 Society<\/em><\/p>\n

Why they work<\/strong>: It’s the hair. Jokes aside, Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg have this rough-awkward-mysterious thing going on, and they complement each other well in all the films they’ve done to date. In the\u00a0three movies they’ve starred together in\u00a0there’s been a love interest between them—one that often is more one-sided on Eisenberg’s behalf, but it’s there for Stewart too, she’s just slower to the sappy ways. Case in point: In Caf\u00e9\u00a9 Society<\/em>, Eisenberg’s character falls instantly for Stewart’s character, but she’s in love with his uncle (played by Steve Carrell). Yet, soon enough after wooing, a romance blossoms. There’s something just intriguing about them and they bounce off one another in both delicate and rampaging fashion.<\/p>\n

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson<\/strong><\/p>\n

Why they work<\/strong>: Who says that dynamic duos have to be of the lady to gent ratio? The banter, the antics, the all-around funny talk between this pair shows\u00a0a buddy bromance take on life that we can all appreciate. Familiarity can be kind of awesome sometimes and with\u00a0these gents that’s what you get, but also\u00a0you get a\u00a0couple of fresh takeaways for the nights you need an extra zing liner. Also, something should be said about their actual voices, which are instantly distinguishable and hard to forget. So too are BS quotes like: You know how they say we only use 10 per cent of our brains? I think we only use 10 per cent of our hearts.\u009d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
